Walk just two blocks to the Monterey Aquarium. They open at 10AM and you MUST get there early.
If you arrive at 9:45 am they will take your ticket and let you wait inside. Get tickets online in advance to avoid the long lines.
Tips:
Go the Jelly Fish Exhibit first before the crowds get there.

Lunch:
Eat at the café in the Aquarium. There is lots of seating. Recommend: Fish tostada (Seasonal fish, cumin black beans, jicama slaw, guajillo salsa, feta)
Afternoon
Had enough fish? Walk along the promenade of Monterey Bay and explore the unusual historic homes in the neighborhoods along the coast . Take a drive over to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. Rent bikes to explore the area – the city is very bike friendly.
